Review of Velvet Boutique Hotel, Manchester

It’s our first ever hotel review and what a first choice. Velvet Boutique is located in the heart of Manchester’s gay village on Canal Street. It is Manchester’s 1st independent, 4 star boutique hotel, bar and restaurant.

On to the review….

Arriving at Velvet Boutique

I was instantly wowed upon arrival. It’s location on Canal Street makes you feel like you’re in the place-to-be with plenty of bars & restaurants nearby. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming at check-in and recommended us places to go for lunch in the city. The vibrant Northern Quarter is just a 10 minute walk away, as is the Arndale shopping centre. The hotel also has its own bar and restaurant which we unfortunately did not get chance to try on this occasion. They serve pizzas, burgers, steaks and a selection of dishes showcasing unique takes on British food.

They also have a fish tank in the stairs (pictured above) – how cool!

The Room

What I love about staying in independent hotels is that each room is an exclusive experience. This is especially apparent in Velvet Boutique with each room boasting unique decor and distinct style. We stayed in one of the hotel’s three balcony king rooms. The view from the balcony overlooking Canal Street and the surrounding areas is gorgeous; it’s even heated!

Our particular room had an elegant theme, dark colours throughout with a ‘velvet’, turquoise couch and bed dressing. The bathroom featured an over sized square bath and separate shower. When I say the bath was HUGE, I mean HUGE!

Final Thoughts

A stay at Velvet Boutique really does seem to be the brilliant example of a stay at a boutique hotel. It’s truly unique, the service is brilliant and the location is perfect. I’d like to add that the service was faultless. We were offered complimentary fresh tea & coffee when we entered the room and nothing was too much for them.

You can check out Velvet Boutique Hotel’s website here to book a room. Me friend and I paid £120 for a one night’s stay on a Sunday night so prices may vary. We actually booked our stay through

We featured Velvet Boutique hotel in one of our posts about the region’s best boutique hotels which you can read here.

I hope you enjoyed this review!
