As regular readers will know we like to do things a bit differently around here. We like to bring you diversity for What’s On Up North. This year we are doing a round up of  fun and alternative Valentine’s Day experiences you can book now in the North of England.

Welcome To Yorkshire can give you 10 romantic Valentine’s Day ideas  including ‘Bloody Valentines! Blood Is In The Scare’ at Yorkshire Scare Grounds Scream Park. Who says romance is dead?

Shrek The Musical will be at Sunderland Empire for two weeks from Wednesday 31 January – Sunday 11 February 2018. Just time to get you in the mood for romance with a big dollop of green hued love. Tickets at time of going to press were still available.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s in Leeds — a twilight concert of classics from the American Songbook performed by members of the Chorus of Opera North starts the evening with a swing, followed by a screening of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

McDonald’s in Northumberland Street, Newcastle is offering a  romantic 3 course ‘McValentines’ meal. I remember reading about this being trialled several years ago in Australia. I think its a fun way for teenagers and strap cashed romeos to treat their ‘boos’. Fans of the ultimate fast food will be able to reserve a table. Hurry! More details can be found on their McDonalds Facebook page.

Another fast food chain also jumping on the bandwagon of  love is Greggs. They are offering a four course set menu for two for £15.00.

Their website states:

“Instead of ordering at the till, couples will be served and receive first class table service in our first ‘fine dining’ experience, while serenaded by romantic classical music.”

Northern cities taking part are Manchester and Newcastle.

It looks like Maccy D’s will have some competition!

If your true love is a chocoholic why not give them your heart in a replica? Yes —  an actual replica of a human heart for £25.00 from The Edible Museum. Too much for some I’m sure but definitely different.

It was my mission to share some ideas that challenge the norm for Valentine’s  Day .. I hope I’ve achieved that. Maybe it says a lot about me from what I have chosen!
