In the first of a series of guest posts for our Northern Showcase we are thrilled to introduce you to Jennifer Clair Robson. Here she describes about a new intiative tackling climate change she is involved in called ‘Climate Action North East’
I’m delighted to be joining forces with Sharon Lashley and Anna-Lisa Mills to launch Climate Action North East, a new community interest company that will re-ignite action on climate change-related issues in the North East of England.
Climate change is an important issue that’s not going away; we can see the impacts affecting countries around the world as well as right here in the North East of England. Flooding and coastal erosion are examples.
I worked on this agenda with the climate change partnership for the North East, Climate North East from 2007 to 2015. The partnership was ‘mothballed’ following all sorts political and funding changes taking place at the time so I’m excited to be working on some super exciting plans to reinvigorate the much-needed action and attention around climate change and environmental issues – and contributing to making this world a better place.
Sharon and Anna-Lisa have also worked on a wide variety of climate change issues over the years, so it’s fantastic that we can pool our experience and knowledge and work together to address issues around climate change for the benefit of communities and businesses across the region.
Our immediate goal is to raise funds to deliver practical support and advice for businesses, individuals and communities. This will include all sorts of activities from working with businesses to help them reduce their impact on the environment while minimising their risks to the changing climate to organising litter picking sessions with schools and community groups.
We hope by combining our knowledge, skills and networks we can make a positive difference across our wonderful region.
