Olive & Bean in Newcastle is a place I often frequented whilst studying & living in the city. When I’m back visiting and need a good spot for lunch it is often my first port of call. It offers a huge variety of hot teas, delicious tray-bakes and sarnies; a perfect spot for brunch, lunch and the ever British tradition of afternoon tea. I recently visited a few weeks back so thought I’d share a bit more about my visit.
The minute you walk in to the cafe you’re met with this amazing display of tiffins, scones, cakes and chocolate! My favourite and always my go to dessert is the Oreo Tiffin. I’m not going to lie it is slightly sickly and probably better shared but it’s so good! The staff are always super helpful and offer to pack up any you can’t quite manage during your visit.
During my last visit both me and my friend went for one of their specials of the day; a panini and soup combination. I remember the soup being a little bit of a disappointment but the panini was lovely. My favourite on the whole menu would have to be the roast chicken breast, mozzarella and homemade pesto; delicious! On this visit we had time to kill before catching a train to Edinburgh so I decided to try a couple of the different ‘TeaPigs’ teas they have to offer. I tried the green tea as I was wanting a bit of an immunity boost before a weekend of boozing. I then moved onto the peppermint tea and loved it that much I actually decided to buy some.
One of my favourite things about Olive & Bean is the large tables that are designed for different groups of people to share. It attempts to create a really friendly atmosphere and offer something unique. It is often very un-British of us to talk to strangers so it’s nice to try and break that wall down. Even better that Newcastle is often voted one of the friendliest cities in the UK!
Here are some pictures of more of the food on offer…
