It’s June. That means Father’s Day is approaching FAST! Sunday 18th to be exact. A few months ago we put together some alternative events for Mother’s Day and it was a hit; one of our most popular posts to date! With this being said, we thought we’d do the same for the other half of the chromosome and list some cool events happening in the region for Father’s Day! Enjoy!

Reds True Barbecue, Newcastle

Most people would think a Sunday roast is the best option for Father’s Day but what about a ‘Man Vs Food’ style burger – can you get any more ‘manly?’ This is the ‘Almighty’ burger which includes three huge slices of rib-eye steak sandwiched between a freshly-baked brioche bun. It costs £39.95 which does sound pricey but does also include halloumi fries, cheeseburger truffle dipper, a can of Legitimate Industries Double Agent Imperial Russian Stout and a jar of barrel aged ‘Old Fashioned’ BBQ sauce to take home. There are only 25 of these burger available so you must book! You could also check out some of the other restaurants in Eldon Squares new Grey’s Quarter like Tapas Revolution – you can read what we thought here!

Fish n Chips & Surfing at Saltburn

Sometimes a nice walk along the beach with fish and chips in hand is all you need! Saltburn is on the up and as well as its beachfront there’s a load of quirky shops and eateries to discover and visit. We did a post about it a while back so you can check that out for some ideas.

I also think it’d be really cool to have a surfing lesson with your dad for a father’s day treat. I tried surfing last year with the guys at ‘Flow Surf School’ and loved how invigorating & amazing it was! I’ve heard Tynemouth is pretty good for surfing in the region, too.

Vermont Hotel, Newcastle

Newcastle’s Vermont Hotel boasts some of the best views in the city! Plus, starting father’s day they are opening their fabulous sky garden from 6pm till 8pm for a maximum of 100 guests; perfect for your first port of call on a father’s day night on the toon. Even better, the cost to attend is only £5 per guest with the proceeds going to The Percy Hedley Foundation; a charity that provides specialist care and education for disabled individuals. You can find out more info here!

Teesside Karting, Middlesbrough

Go-karting for father’s day sounds good, right? Teesside Karting boasts the worlds longest circuit! Who knew? Their ‘Arrive & Drive’ package is perfect for a father’s day gift with an adult costing £20 for 15 minutes and £25 for 30 minutes. Included in the price is full access to all the necessary safety gear and a pre-race safety briefing! Check out their website for more info.

Go Ape, Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire

A post shared by Charlie Gifford (@charlgifford) on

An adrenaline filled Father’s Day is something unique but definitely a good and different idea! I visited Go Ape in North Yorkshire’s Dalby forest last year and was shocked at its value for money – we were in the trees for at least a couple of hours! You can check out their website here!

So there you have it! If you’re still undecided as to what to do this Father’s Day you have some ideas! I hope you all have a lovely weekend!
